Phase 4 — Production cycles
The recurring engine. One URL becomes sixteen pins across four designs and four boards, running as a rolling chain.
Nothing more to start yet
1 cycle runningA cycle needs a URL that is out of cooldown, sits under a topic with five live boards, and has four boards of its own assigned. None of the 72 URLs here clear all three — so the ones below are all that can run for now.
- Assign boards on the URLs page (P4.1.7)
71URLs: fewer than four boards assigned
Assign them in the Boards column on the URLs page, or inside the cycle once it is running. A URL that cannot reach four, because the store has few boards at all, can be started with a reason instead.

58URLs: have no topic
Coverage is counted per topic, so a URL without one can never clear the gate. Set the topic on the URL — the import proposes one where it can.

11URLs: sit under a topic that still needs boards designed
Coverage gates phase 4 for everything under that topic (P3.3.2). Whatever is already queued will land on its own; the shortfall after that has to be designed first. Each line says which of the two it is.

- structure4 boards are outside this URL's topic: Ceramic Tableware, Coffee Cups, Espresso Cups, Modern Table SettingSemantic relevance is what the board contributes. Swimwear does not belong on a strapless bra board, even where both are lingerie (P4.1.7).
- structure2 boards under 10 pins: Coffee Cups, Modern Table SettingA board with too few pins gives the algorithm no context, so everything pinned there under-distributes (P1.2.9).
- researchNo grid analysis for the primary keyword "tableware set"Without a grid row the design brief falls back to the 80/20 default instead of what page one actually rewards for this term (P2.1.3).
- researchThe brand is not recordedDesigns made without it come back generic: a stock font, a palette borrowed from the niche grid, and no logo. That is the difference between a pin that looks like this brand and one that looks like the category.
- · nothing at all — P1.1.6 has never been filled in
★ is the primary keyword, which opens the title. OV marks a term as text overlay on the click pin — three to five long-tail ones, read as a phrase somebody sees on an image. Unmarked, the design brief falls back to the first long-tail terms, and "the fallback ran" is not "somebody chose".

Step 4.1 · URL selection
7/7 done- What
- Pick a URL from the candidates the system surfaces (cooldown and coverage already filtered), record why it matters from the fixed list, assign at most five keywords and at least five semantically relevant boards.
- Where
- The Cycles tab in this dashboard.
- Output
- A URL with a reason, keywords and boards attached, ready for design.
Show candidate URLs
Bestsellers, top pins, new launches. Cooldown and board coverage are already filtered out: what is listed is allowed.
The pool is filled from the client's sitemap and from the pages Pinterest already rewards, then filtered on cooldown, topic coverage and board assignment. An empty candidate list almost always means the pool was never imported.
Control: P4.1.1 · The URL pool on this cycle, above.

Seasonal candidates
URLs whose peak falls six to ten weeks out. Publishing late is the most common failure there is — earlier is recoverable, late is not.
Seasonal URLs surface automatically when their peak falls six to ten weeks out. The peak comes from the URL, or from its primary keyword when the URL has none of its own — set it on the keyword and every URL using that term inherits it.
Open keywordsRequest new URLs
Ask the client about launches and new blogs. The algorithm rewards brand-new URLs heavily.
Ask about launches and new blog posts, then add each one under URLs so it enters the candidate pool. Brand-new URLs are rewarded heavily.

Select URLs
The number follows from the frequency. Core judgement: start with bestsellers and most-visited pages, cross-reference with season.
The selection arrives proposed: what has won here first, then what the season is opening, with the reason on each row and a counter against the store's monthly frequency. Untick what the client does not want pushed — that is the one thing the ranking cannot know.
Control: P4.1.4 · This month's URLs on this cycle, above.
Am Coffee Club Extra selected for this cycle.
Assign keywords
Maximum five per URL, a mix of short and long-tail, from the keyword bank.
Five keywords come pre-picked with the reason each — gridded terms first, because the design brief can only set format and colour from a keyword that has a grid row. Confirm or swap.
Control: 1 · Setup on this cycle, above.
3 keywords assigned, one primary.
Assign boards
At least five, semantically relevant. Swimwear does not belong on a strapless bra board, even though both are lingerie.

Long-tail to the design brief
Three to five descriptive keywords per URL, as a hook for the text overlay.
Three to five long-tail terms become the text overlay on the click pin. Pre-picked longest-first from the keywords you just confirmed — check each one reads as a phrase somebody sees on an image, not as a label.

Step 4.2 · Design & copy
10/10 done- What
- Record the grid analysis for this cycle, generate the design brief, create four visually distinct designs plus three micro-crops each, run design QC, generate copy per design, and pass the hard validators.
- Where
- Design work happens in Canva or your design tool. Brief, QC and copy validation happen here.
- Output
- Sixteen approved assets and four validated copy sets, one per design.
Grid analysis before designing
Mandatory step. What is Pinterest rewarding right now for this keyword? Fitting in beats standing out: neon pink in a beige grid fails.
Search the primary keyword now, in an incognito window or in PinClicks, and record what page one is rewarding today. The design brief reads all three answers directly.
How it scores. Fitting in beats standing out. Neon pink in a beige grid does not get noticed, it gets scrolled — so these are instructions to the designer, not observations.
Which colours dominate the top fifteen to twenty pins?
These go straight into the design brief as the palette to sit inside. A brief with no grid row falls back to the brand's own colours, which is a guess about a search result rather than a reading of one.
Three hex codes, comma separated, most common first. Eyedrop them rather than guessing — "warm neutrals" is not something a designer can build from.
What shape is page one?
Tells the designer whether the grid is standard 2:3 or has gone long-form. A pin cropped to the wrong ratio loses height, and height is what earns the impression.
Look at the proportions of the top row, not at one pin.
How many of the top pins carry text on the image?
This is the reading that changes how a click pin is drawn. It does not move the 80/20 split — that is a pacing decision about the account, fixed by the method, and deriving it from one search result was a rule invented in code.
Count roughly across the top fifteen to twenty.
What does this change about the four designs?
The three answers above are data; this is the instruction. It is the line the designer actually works from.
One or two sentences. Name what to do differently from last cycle, not what you saw.
Search the primary keyword and record what page one rewards. Without a grid row the design brief falls back to the 80/20 default.

Determine route
Design directly if the client has lifestyle material, otherwise the AI route.
Direct where the client has usable lifestyle material, AI where they do not. The brief and the image prompt both branch on it.
Control: 2 · Design brief on this cycle, above.
Generate design brief
Per URL: keywords, dominant colours, format, overlay or no overlay, and the split between save and click.
Builds from the grid, the brand book, the taste graph and what has already won on this account. Underneath it: which format each of the four designs should be, and what the competition is doing for this keyword.

Create four designs
Four visually distinct designs. Eighty percent save pins: 2:3, lifestyle, no text. Twenty percent click pins: 9:16, text, CTA. AI-MODIFIED BYPASS: apply a 1% transparent frame around every AI-generated image before export — this strips the C2PA metadata that Pinterest reads to auto-flag AI content. NEVER enable the "Mark as AI-Modified" toggle in the Pin Builder either; both signals suppress distribution.
Four visually distinct designs: three SAVE at 2:3 and one CLICK at 9:16. Upload them per design — Canva, a shoot, the client’s own material — and the file is renamed to the SOP name on the way in, because Pinterest reads it out of the URL. Generating is the fallback for an account with no usable material: one image per design, each from its own prompt built from the visual worlds, the palette and the grid, and it takes a couple of minutes.
Loading the designs…
Generating replaces all four at once and overwrites what is there; uploading touches only that one design. On an AI-generated image, apply the 1% transparent frame in Canva before export — it strips the C2PA metadata Pinterest reads to auto-flag AI content.
Any design can be an mp4 instead (up to 120 MB, 4s to 15 minutes, portrait) — all four, if the product says more moving than standing still. The cover frame is taken from the video itself and becomes the thumbnail everywhere in here. A video cannot be micro-cropped, so a video design takes up to four versions instead — one per pin (A–D). A version does not have to be new footage: another cut, another opening second or another overlay counts. A pin whose version is missing carries version A.
4 of 4 designs have an image (uploaded).
Generate fresh copies
Micro-crop on copies B, C and D. Image is the heaviest freshness signal after the URL, so this keeps you at 64 to 77 percent distribution.
Copy variant A keeps the original; B, C and D each take 96% of the frame from a different corner and scale back. That makes all four pins off one design read as four images while sharing one copy set — which is why four copy sets per URL is right and sixteen would be waste.
16 of 16 pins carry an image, 8 of 8 carry the video.
File names
Lowercase, hyphens, keyword included. A hidden SEO signal.
File names are generated lowercase, hyphenated and keyword-bearing. Check they survived the export — design tools rename on download.
Design QC
Colours correct, overlay rule respected, four genuinely different designs, file name right. QC ADDITIONS: sans-serif fonts only — Pinterest OCR fails on cursive and script, which drops the pin's topical signal. Respect the safe zones in the top-left and top-right corners of the pin canvas: Pinterest overlays Save / More buttons there and any content behind them is invisible on mobile.
Colours right, overlay rule respected, four genuinely different designs, file name correct. A rejection needs a reason — it is what the next generation gets corrected from.

Generate copy
Four sets per URL, one per design. The four crops share their text: image weighs more than text.
Four copy sets, drafted from the brand book, the tone of voice and this account's own research. You approve them afterwards.

Copy-QC
Only what the validator cannot judge: does it sound like the brand, does it match the image, does the landing page deliver what the copy promises.

Step 4.3 · Waterfall
2/2 done- What
- Generate the sixteen-pin waterfall with board rotation and interval, then review the calendar before anything is scheduled.
- Where
- The Cycles tab. The system computes rotation and dates; you approve the calendar.
- Output
- Sixteen pins scheduled with the correct rotation, spacing and board spread.
Generate waterfall
Sixteen pins, dates and board rotation. Design 1 goes to boards 1-2-3-4, design 2 to 2-3-4-1. Every board gets every design, spread over time.

Waterfall 5804beb7 generated: 16 pins from 2026-10-05, spacing 48h.
Approve waterfall
A visual calendar. Check the spread before anything is scheduled.
Check the spread on the calendar first — nothing goes to Pinterest until you approve it. Queueing hands the pins to the cron, which publishes each one on its own date. Pins whose board is not on Pinterest yet are held back by name; press again once those boards exist.
Everything on this cycle is queued — the cron publishes each pin on its date.
3 pin(s) queued from 5804beb7; the cron publishes each on its date.
Step 4.4 · Publishing
0/2 done- What
- Push the schedule to Pinterest and monitor publication for failures, rate limits and expired tokens.
- Where
- Automatic through the Pinterest API. Failures surface on the Overview leak panel.
- Output
- Pins live on Pinterest with no silent failures.
Schedule on Pinterest
Via the API. Always standard pins, never the simplified or idea format: those are barely distributed.
Queues the sixteen pins; the cron posts each one on its own date. It does not publish now on purpose — the dates are spread over weeks, and posting them together would collapse the waterfall into a single day. Standard pins over the API, never the simplified or idea format, which are barely distributed.
Everything on this cycle is queued — the cron publishes each pin on its date.
Monitor publishing
Flag errors, queue on rate limits, report expired tokens.
Nothing to do here — it closes itself when the queue is empty. Runs: organic-post-pins, every 15 minutes — a pin publishes on the day it is dated.
What went live, what is still waiting, and what is in the way. A rate limit re-queues itself and needs nobody; an expired token never resolves on its own and takes the next cycle down with it.
